Overview

Hankou Railway Station, one of the most important railway stations in Wuhan, was established in 1898 and underwent initial renovations in 2009. With a maximum daily passenger flow of over 200,000 people, the operator planned a network upgrade at the station. The project involved the integration of CCTV, Passenger Information Systems (PIS) displays, and wireless Wi-Fi coverage.

Challenge

The project faced several challenges:

High Passenger Flow: The network upgrade needed to be carried out without significantly disrupting the station's daily operations.

Historical Preservation: As one of the few European-style train stations in China, the renovation could not damage the historical structure.

Tight Project Timeline: The project had to be completed before Chinese New Year to prepare for the peak passenger flow during the holiday season.

Solution

The contractor realized that our PoE over coax extender OT-PLC101POE/OT-PLC101-DC could use the existing coaxial cables in the station for PoE signal transmission, making it an ideal fit for this project. The solution was recommended to the operator, and they ultimately chose us for the following advantages:

Use of Existing Coaxial Cables: Avoiding the need for new cabling helped prevent potential damage to the historic structure.

Plug-and-Play Setup: The solution’s ease of installation minimized the impact on daily railway operations.

Result

By adopting our solution, the entire network upgrade was completed 10 days ahead of schedule, and the daily operations of the railway station were not affected in any way.
